As promised, my counterbalance to the more critical list alluded to in my previous post. Here are the Top Ten things that have made an impression on me by ‘good’ worship leaders. When I say ‘good’ I’m obviously being subjective. In my subjective state, ‘good’ to me basically implies the requisite raw materials, gifting and utilisation of those gifts. One of the things a good worship leader makes me think is, “this person was meant to be doing this!’.

Here goes for Part 1.

1. Passion

There are some worship leaders who just ooze passion. Passion for God, passion for corporate worship, and passion for people. When leaders like this are up the front they could read the phone book to me - it would still sound compelling to me. This is an X-factor that you either have or don’t I think. This is a gift and it comes from God.

Passion oozes out no matter what style of worship is being used. I can detect passion in the leader of a fixed liturgy, as I can in an amped up youth service. I love it, I feed off it, and it helps direct me towards being passionate myself. To all passionate worship leaders, I hereby doff my cap. Thanks for helping make so many corporate worship gatherings so much more meaningful!

I have a little idea about worship and i was meant to undestand that worship start from your relationship with God, that is if your relationship with God is good you will be eble to lead people well. but how comes some times one struggle to lead or you don’t see people worship as it’s expected. i want little light on it and how i can improve my self more in worship, as in leading the congregation in the church.

Passion for God is certainly at the heart of it but developing musical, communication and congregational leading skills is important.
It’s the same as a good preacher vs someone who has something good to say.
Sometimes people can kill a message off through poor communication. Likewise a worship leader with few skills can sometimes miss the mark of what they’re aiming at.

Perhaps a good idea is to have a Sunday where you put down all your instruments, cut the music and get down to the basics of standing before God and worshipping him for who he is.
Ultimately you can’t move the dead, only the alive. I hope your church is filled with the latter rather than the former!
May you bear fruit in your ministry and be encouraged!
