Listening to Family Radio 96.5FM yesterday my heart sank. Northside Christian Church in their wisdom have invited Jerry Savelle to come and speak at their church. The promo had the typical Savelle-speak replete with references to being a ‘winner in life’. You can check out his Aussie website here.
Jerry is a devotee of one of the greatest prosperity merchants of them all: Kenneth Copeland. It’s hard to believe that Christendom has not moved on from the discredited days of the prosperity preachers and that a credible church like Northside would actually host Jerry.
I spent a few years in my younger days getting led up the garden path by prosperity preachers. I’ve marked it and parked it, confessed and tried to possess, I’ve tried to believe and receive, I’ve named and claimed it, the whole compendium of false promises and self oriented twisting of the Gospel. The merry-go-round will start all over again for thousands of unsuspecting believers in the weeks to come.
There’s a sucker born every minute and if for that reason alone prosperity peddling merchants will always have an audience. For any that are going and planning on claiming and ’speaking’ into existence your riches and blessings, remember what Jesus had to say about riches.
Here’s a run down on how Kenneth Copeland is benefiting from the prosperity gospel:
At least Jerry is a bit more humble than his peers. His Citation 500 Cessna is only worth $1.25 million, whereas Benny’s is a Gulfstream worth $4.5 million and Joyce Meyers Bombadier is worth $4.5 million as well.
Northside make sure you dig deep fort he ‘love offering’, with fuel prices these days its gonna cost a fortune to refill!
