Pearls of the Christian Blogosphere #6

2008 November 14

rod_benson2I have found the missing link!  Yes, after all these years, it’s been lurking in the basement of the Tinsley Institute!  I have found a Baptist who can think and blog at the same time.  That rare and nascent beast is not often found on the Australian landscape.  when I say I found the missing link, its probably more accurate to say that the missing link found me.

Rod Benson is an ethicist and public theologian, a member of a Baptist church and someone who does lots of research on Baptist identity. [He has about 50 other entries in his bio which you can read yourself.]

A rare beast indeed.  His blog Baptists Together is proving to be a MAJOR distraction to me because of all the excellent articles on issues that affect Baptists of all kinds.  His blog has something rarely found in any quantity here: substance!  There are a few classic examples of thunderous Baptist fulminating, supplied by letter as a response to the NSW Baptist’s initiative to re-examine what Baptist identity is.

Somebody reported the presence of this scurrilous site to him and it rates a mention on his blog.

From a purists point of view the blog architecture is frustrating, as only one story appears at any given time, and he has not enabled any sidebars for categories, recent posts, recent comments etc.  The other downside of the blog is that Rod uses Blogger – which is so 80’s now.  WordPress is on another planet compared to Blogger and if you haven’t made the transition yet consider yourself a troglodyte and a Digital Immigrant, a very late one at that.

However, despite the architectural failings of his blog, content always wins out over style. Although I’ve only started scratching the surface of this blog it already deserves the honoured status of Pearl Of The Christian Blogosphere [#6], as awarded by Neo Baptist, [the definitive authority on what constitutes a pearl].

For previous award winners visit here, and here, and here, and here and here.

Feel free to submit nominations for further Pearl Awards.  If you are particularly rich and like to throw money around why not sponsor a really tacky prize which we can give out [I'm thinking ping pong ball on a plinth spray painted to look like a pearl?] or if you are particularly good at graphic design feel free to design an an award logo.
